DME Enrollment Dashboard

This dashboard predicts enrollment for each grade in each facility in the DC Public School System from SY24-25 to SY29-30.
These predictions can be adjusted based on user-provided counts of construction permits issued in the school boundary, used as a proxy variable indicating the level of development around the school, and a change in capacity that impacts enrollment.
The predictions are made through regularized regression, validated on a year-by-year basis.
The DME Enrollment Dashboard was created as part of the semester-long practicum project for the Urban Spatial Analytics and City Planning programs at Penn's Weitzman School.

Variable Explanation

Cumulative construction permits in 5 years: The total number of construction permits issued within the five years leading up to the selected school year.
For example, if you're predicting for SY26-27, it includes all permits from 2021 to 2025.
Change in school capacity 5 years later: The percentage change in a school's capacity over a five-year period.
For example, if you're predicting for SY26-27, it compares capacity in SY26-27 to that in SY21-22.
